What is Judaism?
Judaism was founded by Abraham who was a shepherd and his wife Sarah. Abraham lived in Ur, which is now Iraq, four thousand years ago. Abraham was the first person to decide that there is only one true god. This was a new idea, because it was contrary to the other religions of the time. Abraham had a son named Isaac and Isaac had a son named Jacob. Many centuries later, Abrahams descendants, the Israelites moved to Egypt and lived there for a while until the Israelites became very numerous and became slaves. One day God spoke to Moses, an Israelite to lead the israelites out of Egypt and go to "the Promised Land" that God had promised to Abraham long ago. Moses asked the Egyptian king he refused. God caused ten different plagues, after the last plague which caused the death of every first born egyptian son. After that plague the king begged Moses and the Israelites to leave Egypt. Soon after, the king changed his mind and sent his soldiers after them. when they arrived at the red Sea they soldiers had caught up with them. Moses went to a rock and prayed to God. God stretched his hands over the water and it parted. The Israelites crossed the waters and then the waters returned and the soldiers drowned. They were finally free from slavery. The Israelites lived in the desert for the next forty years under the leadership of Moses and God. God gave ten laws to moses to give to the Israelites those laws were called the ten commandments and they told the Israelites how to behave in their daily lives.
